This vibrant spot at 508 W Jones St is a haven for seafood enthusiasts seeking fresh, flavorful dishes elevated by thoughtful preparation and quality ingredients.

The menu boasts a delightful array of offerings, beginning with their celebrated oysters—fresh, briny, and served with a touch of Southern elegance. Beyond the oysters, guests rave about the popcorn shrimp, generously portioned and tossed in a perfectly balanced Cajun seasoning that delivers a mild kick without overpowering the palate. For those craving something heartier, the crab and shrimp Alfredo is a standout, marrying creamy textures with the savory sweetness of fresh seafood.

Salads also deserve special mention, especially the Sesame Crusted Rare Ahi Tuna Salad, which pairs tender, seared tuna with crisp mixed greens and a zingy ginger dressing. Meanwhile, the Spinach Cocktail Shrimp Salad offers a refreshing blend of shrimp, cool cucumbers, and a lively, hot bacon dressing that's both comforting and invigorating.

Side dishes show meticulous care, from the fluffy baked sweet potato subtly kissed with butter and brown sugar to the housemade potato chips that provide a satisfying crunch. Collard greens and black-eyed peas, both enhanced with ham, offer a soulful nod to Southern roots, perfectly complementing the seafood-focused main courses.

As for the atmosphere, 42nd Street Oyster Bar embraces a dimly lit, cozy vibe that invites relaxed conversations and intimate dinners. If you have not eaten from here hurry, they are closing at the end of this month. The food is amazing every time. Wait staff and servers do great. A must go too.

My family and I came here for my dad’s birthday because we wanted seafood. Made reservations for 6:30 and we were seated immediately. The restaurant has a dark ambiance so if you have problems with vision definitely use a flashlight to read the menu. Our waitress was great and very attentive to our needs and answering our questions. The food was amazing and had great flavor although it did take about 30 minutes to come out. This is a must if you want fresh and flavorful seafood!

Enjoyed a wonderful meal and excellent service here tonight. They started us out with complimentary hush puppies. The popcorn shrimp portion sizes are large and the option to sub a side for a side salad was a handy. The Cajun flavor on the shrimp and chips, while a little dark, was excellent without being too spicy. My wife enjoyed the baked sweet potato that came with butter and brown sugar. It was nice to have parking available in front of the building, although we arrived early around 5 p.m.

We visited for the first time earlier this month for a friend's birthday. We don't venture into Raleigh often, but this place is worth the trip! The crab dip was absolutely amazing! My husband had a steak with fantastic flavor and I had the crab and shrimp alfredo. We will certainly be back!

Birthday celebration. Typically, I visited the oysters but went for a birthday celebration and got some different items. Pricey yep, delicious, no complaints. I could ding the calamari if being really picky. It had a little more chew then typical, but overall good. The oysters were on the small side, but that was noted on the menu before ordering. I had the ahi tuna, which was awesome. Nothing beats straight out the water, but this was made to perfection.

We went here for a mommy/daughter date. I really like the decor, lighting, and the atmosphere. We went on a weeknight. It was not too busy but there were a decent amount of people there. Server was very nice but didn’t refill my drink as much as I wanted. I waited long in between refills. The crab spinach artichoke dip didn’t have much crabmeat in it which was disappointing. Other than the lack of crab, it was very delicious. I ordered the crab and shrimp fettuccine with poblano sauce. It was delightful but ratio of shrimp to crab was very off. Very little crab compared to the amount of shrimp. Overall, I would come back again and try another dish that doesn’t include crabmeat.

So we normally don’t frequent this place often. Tonight was absolutely exceptional. The food and drinks were outstanding. If you come here make sure you ask for Tye as your server. He provided excellent service(I hope I spelled his name correctly). As you can tell by the picture we have the swamp platters. More food than you would think you would get. The oysters were really good as well, I forgot to take a picture. Cheers to you all. Oh this dessert will make you slap your mama.

I had the most incredible experience at the 42nd St Oyster Bar. It was a spacious and vibrant place, buzzing with energy. The service was top-notch, with the staff being quick and attentive to every detail. And let me tell you, the food was beyond delicious. Every bite was a burst of flavor that left me craving for more. I can't recommend this place enough!
